    Description

    April 11, 1912
Titanic reaches Queenstown, Ireland. (Present day Cobh)
As in Cherbourg, her immense size makes it impossible for her to enter the harbor.
She weighs anchor a few miles from shore, and tenders, Ireland and America, bring passengers and cargo to the ship’s side.
The passengers are 132 steerage class passengers, most of whom are Irish, including 29 year old Eugene Patrick Daly.
A handful of cross-channel passengers disembark here, the last port of call before Titanic fires up her willing engines and steams into the Atlantic at 20.91 knots, bound for New York.
The ship departs Queenstown at 1:30 p.m. She takes with her 2,228 people (including 908 crew).
As the ship winds her way Southwest down the Irish coast, Ireland soon begins to fade in the distance, as the ship passes the southwestern most point of Ireland, Third Class passenger, Eugene Patrick Daly, 29 years of age, and a laborer in a wool mill, is headed to America in search of a better life.
As the ship leaves Ireland, Daly stands on the deck of the 3rd Class Promenade dressed in his kilt and full regalia, and with a tear in his eye and wondering if he will ever see Ireland again, he plays ‘A Nation Once Again’ and ‘Erin’s Lament’ on his Uillean pipes.
This is the last time that Titanic will see land.
