Description
This listing is for a display case containing two genuine steel fragments of the RMS Titanic. These pieces were recovered from the wrecksite byRMS Titanic Incorporated
, the only company with salvage rights to the ship. Last year Dik Barton decided to sell some pieces from his personal collection. Barton was the Vice President of Operations for
RMS Titanic Incorporated
, and he was instrumental in recovering artifacts, diving to the wreck 22 times.
Two of the most significant pieces of the ship to be recovered were the "Big Piece" of the hull (which tore away when the ship broke apart as it sank), and a Bollard which was knocked loose when the ship hit the ocean floor. When these pieces were brought to the surface and restored, hundreds of small eroded fragments had to be scraped off. This display piece contains one fragment from the Bollard, and one fragment from the Big Piece.
Only 250 sets were produced. The item for sale here is numbered 195/250. It comes with the two fragments encapsulated in a framed display, a COA from Dik Barton, a booklet with information about the artifacts, and a beautiful presentation box.
Overall, this item is in great, unused condition. The plastic sheeting in the frame has some minor fogginess, and the sticker holding it sealed comes loose at the sides (these issues are common to all of these sets). But it's been kept in storage, so it's still in the exact condition in which it originally arrived. The winner will receive the exact items in the photos, so please refer to those for a closer look.
US Shipping for this item is free, and it will be sent insured for the full amount. International Shipping is (depending on the country, additional Import/VAT fees may be charged by your local Post Office). Thank you for viewing this listing!
