ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Red Star Line SS BELGENLAND / WESTERNLAND-era 1st-Class Gilt Tea Pot by GDA France
A fine porcelain 1st-Class tea pot by E. Gerard et Dufraiuseix & Abbot for the Red Star Line. The bottom is hallmarked, under-glaze: GDA France (green stamp) and “Red Star Line, Antwerpen.” This tea pot likely dates c. 1925-1932. It is very possible that this was one of the services for the BELGENLAND's round-the-world cruises, which catered to the very wealthy.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE: thepurserslocker has a matching creamer, which would add to make a lovely set in your RSL collection.
ITEM CONDITION:
The tea pot is around 95-years old, with minimal wear. The transfers, gilt banding and hand-painted lines are all in very good condition.

Sellers Background:
In 1977 I read a book about sea disasters and one of the stories was about a White Star Liner named RMS TITANIC. I do not know why she caught my attention, but I began to read everything about her that I could find in my local library: Walter Lord’s iconic A Night To Remember, Lawrence Beesley’s The Loss of the S.S. Titanic, and Archibald Gracie’s The Truth About The Titanic. These books fueled my curiosities and whet my appetite for more knowledge. TITANIC would spur a life-long interest of literature and history. The 70's and 80's were an interesting, mysterious, and special time for TITANIC, before Bob Ballard’s discovery, James Cameron’s movie, and effortless research via a click of a mouse button.
Over 40 years later, those original three books have grown into a large eclectic library and artifact collection covering numerous topics. Each historical item is very special, capturing a specific time and place in history…our history. Each piece is unique and has its own personal story to tell; the who, what, where, and the why that we dream to know.
I would like to get this special artifact back into circulation and onto someone’s display shelf. I am pleased to offer you the opportunity to enjoy a piece of my Antiques, Steamships, and Sundries.
Personal Conservator Notes on Historical Artifacts and Ephemera:

All Items are from my personal collection. These are historically invaluable treasures and I do my best to treat them as such.
•
All items are displayed or stored in a smoke free home or storage area.
•
I maintain a RH of 45-55%, with an ambient temperature of 74 degrees. These are the most important factors for a historic collection.
•
I do not use flash photography on ephemera or textiles.
•
I do not display artifacts or ephemera in direct sunlight.
•
I handle documents and photos with the use of white cotton gloves.
•
I handle unstable ceramics and glass with the use of nitrile gloves.
•
I hand wash and dry silver goods. I limit the polishing of silver, as this process removes a layer of plating each time. However, many of the sale items will receive a light polish to enhance their appearance and defects in the photos.
•
This item was displayed or photographed in a home with a small dog. Keep this in mind if you have pet hair allergies.
